BISKEY SKI TRAIL January 26, 2017

John Bergstrom’s grooming report from January 25

I groomed today and went over all the trails 2 or 3 times. The snow took a great track and there are no bare spots except on eagle ridge. I did not ski the track but it looks very good. Remember Biskey is classic only. I would ski this with my good skis and be a bit careful on eagle ridge.

Joan’s ski report January 26

The ½” of snow that we received last night is adhering well to the tracks. Nice gliding this morning. I only had a chance to ski Wolf Run but it was very good.

Trail Directions

Many of you caught my error at the beginning of the season email with regard the trail directions. Here is the correction: please note that trails flow clockwise on the hilly sections of White Pine, Birch Ridge and Eagle Ridge. Refer to the attached map or grab one at the trailhead.

Have fun skiing on the best trails in the area!

New One-Way Trail Segments and More

biskey-directions

Changes in scenery from the logging at the end of last year is not the only difference you will notice out at Biskey this ski season!  You will also see new maps with one-way directional routing on certain trails.  This is due to a safety concern of head-on collisions with an increasing number of skiers on the trail system in conjunction with the step hills and limited sight distance.  You can see the new clockwise directions in the above map, and new, better-quality maps will be posted with the new directions around the trail system.  The foldable maps are already at the trailhead.  The “Trail Descriptions” webpage of this website has also been updated to accommodate the new info.

Also, Pine Meadow Loop will be closed again this season, along with Biskey Ponds Loop.  Both are slated for future construction.  Watch the website for this as we will need volunteers.  Happy skiing!

BISKEY IS GROOMED DEC 31 2016

December 31, 2016

We’re skiing in Fredenberg! Tracks were set this afternoon on Wolf Run, White Pine Alley, Birch Ridge and Eagle View Trails.

Please note that new signage still needs to be posted. Be mindful that trails flow clockwise on White Pine, Birch and Eagle.

We allow dogs on Wolf Run.

Best wishes to all for a fun and safe ski season in 2017. Happy New Year!

Trail System Update

Logging activities on lands owned by MN Power around the Biskey Ponds Ski Trail System have been completed and the trails were packed and rolled as of last weekend!  Still waiting for some decent snowfall, although this most recent snow this past weekend will provide a good base!  Since Wolf Run was plowed for logging, it will need more snow than the rest of the system.  If you want to try skiing the system, rock/B-skis are recommended for right now.

Keep Snow Dancing!

Biskey Pond Ski Trail – Help Needed

December 11, 2016

Needed: Ski Trail Groomers for Biskey Ponds Ski Trails

If you are able to help or would like to learn more, please contact Joan Sutliff by replying to this email, calling or texting 218-348-3905. Please share this request with anyone that you think may be interested.

When Will the Trails Be Ready for Skiers?

The new snow has us dreaming of skiing in Fredenberg but we have to be patient for the season to start at Biskey. Logging on Minnesota Power land is currently underway. We will not be able to groom trails until after the logging is complete. A best guess would be that it will around the first of the year. Once there are skiing conditions to report an update will be sent out.
